# 2b2m staging tester setup

## What you need

- A legitimate Minecraft Java Edition account.
- Prism Launcher.
- At least 12 GB of system memory. Allocate 8-10 GB to this instance.
- Your exact Minecraft Java username sent to the server owner before joining,
  because staging uses a whitelist.

You do not need Tailscale, a VPN, or access to the owner's home network.

## Install the staging pack

1. Download
   [the 2b2m staging Prism instance](https://staging.2b2m.org/downloads/2b2m-staging-prism-instance.zip).
2. Open Prism Launcher.
3. Select **Add Instance**, then **Import**.
4. Select the downloaded ZIP and finish the import.
The imported instance should appear as **2b2m Staging**.
5. In Prism, add or select the Microsoft account that owns Minecraft Java
   Edition.
6. Open the instance settings and allocate between 8192 MiB and 10240 MiB
   of memory.
7. Launch the instance. A Packwiz window will download and verify the exact
staging files before Minecraft starts. Let it finish and do not close it.

The imported instance checks the staging Packwiz feed on every launch, so use
the same instance for later staging updates.

## Connect

1. Open **Multiplayer**.
2. Add a server named **2b2m Staging**.
3. Use the address **staging.2b2m.org**.
4. Join only after the server owner confirms that your Minecraft username is
   on the staging whitelist.

## Testing rules

- Treat the staging world as disposable. It is not the production world.
- Do not add, remove, or update mods in the instance yourself.
- Do not copy production player data or worlds into staging.
- Report the time of each issue, what you were doing, and whether it is
  repeatable.
- For a crash, send Prism's Minecraft log and crash report, but never send
Microsoft credentials, access tokens, or launcher account files.

## Snapshot fallback

If the Packwiz instance import itself fails, report that failure first. A
snapshot export is also available at:
